Biography

Mary was a daughter of William Combe and Katherine Boughton. She was baptised 18 April 1619.^[1]

She married Thomas Wagstaff 26 November 1636.^[2]

Mary and Thomas had children including

• Combe, baptised 5 November 1637, Stratford upon Avon.^[3] Buried 5 January 1667/8, Bishops Tachbrook.^[4]
• Mary, baptised 23 October 1639.^[5] The register entry suggests Thomas had died before the baptism

Mary later married John Rous. She was buried 16 March 1686/7 in Bishops Tachbrook.^[6]

In the church at Bishops Tachbrook is a memorial.^[7]

In a Vault within the Chancell adjoyning, Lyeth the body of JOHN ROVS Esq; second son of Sr.JOHN ROVS of Rouslench in the County ofWorcester Knight. He had the honour to be chose one of the Burgesses for WARWICK in that renowned Convention (afterwards a Parliament) which restored KING CHARLES the II. to his Throne. From which time (except the year in which he was High Sheriffe of this County) He acted as a Justice of Peace to the time of his death. He married MARY the widdow and Relict of THOMAS WAGSTAFFE, of Tachbrook Malory Esq; who was eldest daughter, and one of the Coheirs of WILLIAM COMBE of Stratford upon Avon in the said County Esq; He died S.Pr at Tachbrook November vi. MDCLXXX. His wife died at Vtkinton in Cheshire, March the iii.MDCLXXXVI.and is interred in the same vault. The Lady CREWE, who in her life time desired and prepared this to the memory of her Father in Law, died at Fawsley in Northamptonshire June the vii.MDCXCVI. and was also buried in the said vault amongst her dear relations.

Research Notes

Another daughter Mary married John Crewe. The marriage is listed in the parish register at Bishops Tachbrook 7 February 1664/5, the entry appears to be 'Johannes Crow of Lidkinton'.^[8] Lidkinton should probably be Utkinton as in the grave monument.
