Biography

William was born 29 Mar 1883 in Kincardine, Bruce, Ontario, Canada. He was the son of John Colwell.

He arrived at Port Huron, St. Clair, Michigan in 1913. He had previously been in the US living in Zion, Lake County, Illinois for 1.5 years. He was a carpenter living at a rooming house in Zion.[1]

He registered for the World War I draft in Lake County, Illinois.[2] He was a carpenter working for himself. His nearest relative was John Colwell of Kincardine, Ontario, Canada.

In 1930 he was living in Zion, Lake, Illinois.[3] The household included William E Colwell 48, wife Eunice A Colwell 33, son William N Colwell 7 and daughter Florence E Colwell 5. William was a laundryman at a home laundry. Eunice was a laundress at a home laundry.

In 1940 he was living in Zion, Lake, Illinois.[4] The household included William Colwell 59, wife Eunice Colwell 43, son William N Colwell 17, daughter Florence Colwell 14 and son Wesley Colwell 9. William was a janitor at a retail store. Eunice was a packer at a candy factory.

He became a naturalized US citizen on 28 Apr 1941 in Waukegan, Illinois.[5] His previous petition on 18 Mar 1919 had been denied because he was undesirable with prejudice.

He registered for the World War II draft in Zion, Illinois.[6]

He died 9 Feb 1951 and is buried in Oakdale Cemetery, Zion, Lake County, Illinois.[7]
