Admiral John Colville, 9th Lord Colville of Culross was a Royal Navy officer who served as Commander-in-Chief, Cork Station.
John was born in 1768. He was the son of John Colville and Amelia Webber.
He married, firstly, Elizabeth Ford, daughter of Francis Ford and Elizabeth Hothersall, in 1790. [1]
She died in 1839. He then married Hon. Anne Law, daughter of Edward Law, 1st Baron Ellenborough and Anne Towry, in 1841. [2]
John joined the Navy in 1775. He saw action on the HMS Isis during the American Revolution. He took part in the Battle of the Saintes in April 1782.
He was the commanding officer of the HMS Romney and HMS Hercule.
He succeeded as the 9th Lord Colville of Culross in 1811.
He was promoted to Admiral of the White in 1841. He served as a Scottish Representative Peer.
He died without issue in 1849. He is buried at All Souls, Kensal Green, Kensington and Chelsea, England. [3]
His nephew, John Charles Colville succeeded the title 10th Lord of Culross.
