Biography

Casimir Collopy was born in the Colony of New South Wales (1788-1900)
Casimir Collopy is an Anzac who served in World War One.

Casimir Richard COLLOPY[1]

Cas was born at Emmaville, New South Wales in abt 1884 to parents Richard and Margaret COLLOPY.[2][3] He was baptised at St Mary's Emmaville on 24 Feb 1884 as Casimerus Ricardus COLLOPY. [4]

He was said to be a very good cricketer. He was a very fond cousin of Mona Murphy.[5]

The Raleigh Sun (Bellingen, NSW : 1898 - 1918) Friday 4 October 1907, p2
Land Board Sittings. Casimir R. Collopy, c.p.l., Bellingen. Withdrawal permitted ; deposit to be refunded, less 10s 6d costs.

For some reason the family always believed Cas enlisted in World War I in Queensland with his cousin Charles MURPHY. [6] However the official records show Cas enlisted on 11 SEP 1914 at Rosebery, New South Wales, Australia. [7] Cas was mentioned in a postcard as being 'quite well' on 26th October 1918, sent by his cousin Charles Murphy. You can view the postcard here.

Cas described his occupation as a farmer. He lived at Bellingen New South Wales by the 1930's, in 1936 listed as residing at the Exchange Hotel.[8][9]

Casimir died aged 65 on 25 AUG 1951[10] and is buried at Bellingen.[11][12]

The Sydney Morning Herald (NSW : 1842 - 1954) Thursday 30 August 1951, p22
COLLOPY, Casimir Richard - August 25 at B R D Hospital Bellingen late original 13th Battalion 1st A I F (Anzac and A I F World War II), aged 65 years.

According to the NSW State Records Deceased Estate Files, he died a bachelor, aged 65. He left his estate of one thousand and fifty four pounds to Lydia Leila Tyler, wife of Robert James Tyler of Raleigh.

Notes

There is an Edmund Bertrand COLLOPY who enlists at Rosebery as well. Could he be a relation??
