Biography

Pierce Collitts was born in Ireland.
Pierce Collitts was a convict after the Third Fleet transported to New South Wales

Pierce was born in Thomastown, Kilkenny, Ireland.

Pierce married Mary Hardwick 1795 in Stepney, London, England.[1]

In July 1800, he was convicted at the Old Bailey, London, for receiving stolen goods from Edward Baldwin.[2][3] He was sentenced to 14 years transportation, and transported to the Colony of New South Wales per the Minorca, arriving 14 December 1801.[4]

After his conviction, his wife Mary and their children moved to the Colony.

He constructed Mitchell's Pass down the western flank of the Blue Mountains, and also constructed Inns at Little Hartley (Collitts Inn) and at Hartley on the River Lett.[5]

Pierce died in 1848 and was buried in the cemetery behind his inn in Hartley Vale, New South Wales.[6]
