Biography

Percy Robert Murdoch Collins was born in 1890 in South Yarra, Victoria (Australia). He was the youngest son of Henry Michael Collins and Isabella Maria Baker of Gracehill, Frankston, Victoria. [1]

Percy was commissioned as an officer in the Royal Artillery and served in the (First World) War, attaining the rank of Major. He was appointed Companion of the Distinguished Service Order (DSO).

Percy married fellow Victorian Annie Grice on 11th May 1915 in Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Square, Upper Chelsea, London, England. [2] Melbourne's Argus newspaper published the following notice: [3]

"COLLINS—GRICE—On the 11th May, at Holy Trinity Church, Sloane street, S.W., by the Rector, the Reverend H. R. Gamble, M.A., Lieutenant Percy Robert Murdoch Collins, Royal Artillery, youngest son of Henry M. Collins, of Gracehill, Frankston, Victoria, Australia, to Annie Elinor Lula Grice, younger daughter of the late Richard Grice, of Berwick, Victoria, Australia."

He passed away prior to his daughter Lula's wedding to Peter Lempriere in Victoria in July 1937: [4]

"After a quiet ceremony yesterday afternoon at All Saints' Church, East St. Kilda, at which only relatives were present, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Lempriere re- ceived good wishes from their many friends at a reception given by Mrs. Dudley Trenchard—the bride's aunt—at the New Embassy. Formerly, Miss Lulu Collins, the bride is the only child of the late Major and Mrs. Percy Collins, of Melbourne, and the bridegroom the youngest son of Mrs. A. R. Lempriere and the late Mr. Lempriere, of Melbourne. Mr. Tom Fogarty acted as best man at the wedding, at which the bride, who was unattended, was given away by Major Geoffrey Grice. The ceremony was performed by Rev. C. Bright Parker ..."
