  • Hi Rita
  • Its been a while since we communicated last. I was looking at the Wikitree site for John Foster Collins (Collins-16780), in particular under the biography. In particular "John was a Veteran of World War I, (service #1594), a Sergeant in the 12th Regiment of the First Australian Imperial Force. The 12th Battalion was recruited from Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia and formed part of the 3rd Brigade, 1st Division. It served throughout the war, firstly during the Gallipoli Campaign and then on the Western Front." I think you will find that this unit is an infantry unit, where as John was a member of the 12th Australian Light Horse Regiment - "The 12th Light Horse Regiment was raised, as part of the 4th Light Horse Brigade, at Liverpool, New South Wales, on 1 March 1915."

John joined later and was allocated as part of the 6th reinforcements for the 12th Australian Light Horse Regiment. The reference for the regiment is the Australian War Memorial "https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/U51046". The reference for John Foster Collins war service is the national archives as below; World War One - "https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/DetailsReports/ItemDetail.aspx?Barcode=3015015&isAv=N" World War Two - "https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/DetailsReports/ItemDetail.aspx?Barcode=5699497&isAv=N" Both have electronic copies of his service record available for viewing. Hope all is well and thanks for the work you have undertaken. Kind Regards Greg Collins PS Thank you Greg for the Photo of Jack
