ADDIE C. GILRUTH, 97, CORNELL COLLEGE ALUMNA
Mrs. Addie Gitruth, 97 years old, died yesterday in the home of her daughter, Dr. Mary G. McEwen, 1703 Chicago avenue, Evanston, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Gilruth was born in Hillsdale, N. Y., and came west with her parents in 1857, settling at Mt. Vernon, Ia. She was graduated from Cornell college in 1861 and last June returned to the college in Mount Vernon as its guest or honor to celebrate the 75th anniversary of her graduation. In 1869 she married the late Rev. James H. Gilruth of Davenport, Ia., then a member of the Upper Iowa Methodist conference. To them were born seven children, four of whom survive. Mrs. William C. Rigby of Washington, D. C.; James C. Gilruth of Chicago, Henry A. Gilruth of Duluth, Minn., and Dr. McEwen. There are fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today at Graceland cemetery chapel at 1:30 p. m. with the Rev. Ernest F. Tittle, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church, Evanston, officiating.
