Biography

Joseph Coley was born in Birmingham on the 8th of June 1802 the son of Ephraim Coley and his wife, Ann Fisher, and was baptised at St Martin in Birmingham on the 11th of April 1803. ^[1] He married Eliza Benton at St Phillip on 21 May 1822. ^[2] Together they had at least eleven children. They supported the children from Joseph's work as blacksmith and Eliza's as tailoress. ^[3] Eliza died in 1846 ^[4] and was buried at Holy Trinity, Bordesley on the 7th of September.

Joseph married widow Phoebe Smith, daughter of Thomas Upcroft, at St Phillips on the 5th of July following.^{[5] [6]}

Joseph was a blacksmith living at 15 Dudley St, Birmingham with his second wife, tailoress Phoebe, and his family in 1851. ^[7]

He died early in 1861. ^[8]
