Biography

Richard John Colclough was born around 1839 in Ireland, the son of Margaret Colclough and John Colclough.^[1]

Richard (age 17) arrived in Victoria, Australia on the ship James Baines on 12 February 1855, along with his brother, John (age 19).^[2] Note: Some newspaper articles suggest he arrived in 1854. ^{[3] [4]}

Richard was a dairyman and a grazier.^[5] He acquired large grazing properties at Oaklands Junction, Dandenong and Meredith.^[4] For some years, he was in occupation of the Tatong Station, Benalla.^[6]

On 2 August 1882 in Victoria, Richard married Jean Graham.^[7][8] Their children were all born in Victoria:

Richard died on 28 May 1908 at his home, "Carlowrie," Essendon, Victoria, aged 69 years.^[1][16]
