  • First-hand information. Entered by Angela Cofer at registration.

I was born in Augusta, Georgia, and attended 1st grade. Then my family moved to Tifton, GA, in 1958, where I attended 2nd, 3rd, & 4th grades. Then we moved to Moultrie, GA, where I attended 6th and part of the 7th grade because we moved to Gainesville, GA, where I completed the 7th grade. Then we moved back to Moultrie, GA, where I completed 8th & 9th grades at the Junior High school & 10th grade at the Senior High School. We moved back to Tifton, GA, in 1967 where I finished the 11th & 12th grades at Tift County High. I completed my freshman year of college at Abraham Baldwin College in Tifton & in 1970 transferred to Mercer University in Macon, GA, where I completed a BA degree in 1973. I left home in the fall of 1973 to attend Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, from which I graduated in 1976 with a Master of Church Music (MCM) Degree in Vocal Performance. Then I attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA, where I completed a Master of Music (MM) Degree in Vocal Performance in 1979. While attending LSU I taught voice as a Graduate Assistant and was an Adjunct Voice Faculty member at Louisiana College in Pineville, LA. My father died in April of 1979, so I went home to Tifton, GA, to live with my mother and youngest sister. While there I taught voice as an Adjunct Faculty member at Abraham Baldwin College and was the Music Director at a local church. I left in the fall of 1980 to attend Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music to pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) Degree in Vocal Performance. I completed my doctoral course work at CCM in the spring of 1983; however, I still needed to present a lecture-recital and write a thesis. After many years of being a "professional student", I finally accepted a full-time position on the Voice Faculty at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ, where I taught from 1983-1989. During that time I finally completed the requirements for the DMA degree which I was granted in 1988. Then in August of 1989, I moved to Fort Worth, TX, to join the Voice Faculty in the School of Church Music at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where I taught until retirement in May of 2018. I am still teaching a few voice students at home and continue to sing on occasion at churches and in concerts. I finally have time to again work on my family ancestry which I started doing a number of years ago.

Hi Angela,

I inherited many profiles following the death of my friend, Allan Thomas. I went through the Changes log on the profile https://www.WikiTree.com/wiki/Williamson-1222 . It appears there is a son named Robert mentioned in the Will, as well as on Rootsweb.

It will take me a while to clean this profile up as there is all of the Gedcom material included in the Biography.

It also looks to me the profile went through a merge or so, and majority of sourcing is ancestry.com trees, except for the will.

Bear with me while I work on it a while.

Thank you for your interest.

Hi Angela, I believe that you and I are related

I would love to get t know your. My profile is Showell-64 Please let me know if you are on Facebook by any chance God bless you. Karen

Hello Angela,

Thanks for the introduction! What a lovely career. :) I was an academic, too, but in medieval/early modern lit.

I'd also like to thank you for adding your DNA Test information to your profile on WikiTree. Your information will be propagated to the profiles of your parents and your ancestors within about 24 hours of being added. It will also propagate to the profiles of the descendants of your ancestors, so they may see your information under the heading "DNA Connections" just as you can see theirs.

Getting started with DNA outlines how to proceed to use your DNA test information on WikiTree and DNA is a link to a collection of links about WikiTree's many features involving DNA.

The DNA Connections list on your profile will provide a visual way for you to find potential relatives on WikiTree who have also added their DNA test information. Using DNA tools at sites like GEDMatch.com, if you find a relative that matches your DNA sufficiently and you have genealogical sources for the intermediate relationships, you can mark the specific parental relationships back to the most recent ancestor that you both share as "confirmed with DNA." For details, guidance, and examples of how to properly document DNA confirmations, see DNA confirmation.

To find other potential relatives, continue adding sourced profiles for other lines until you can connect on all branches. The more branches you are able to add the greater the likelihood of finding potential cousins to match with. The process of identifying which branch elements of DNA relate to will better enable you to find matches that relate to the particular branches you are researching.

Let me know if you have any questions,

Hello Claire,

How wonderful to know of your career in literature! Thank you for sending information about how to use my DNA test on Wikitree. I had my test done at CRI Genetics but am not sure how to add my results to Wikitree. Thanks ahead of time for any help you can offer in helping me figure out how to do this. Blessings, Angela

Hello Again, Claire! I have been trying to add my DNA text from CRI Genetics but cannot find my DNA portal on the Wikitree website to get an ID. Is that not possible because I had my test done by this company rather than one of those listed on the Wikitree website? Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Angela

Hi Angela,

Great question. The answer is, I'm not sure what the precise parameters are, so I'm referring your question to the Greeter team. We will come up with an answer for you shortly.

Thanks for reaching out,

Claire

Hi Angela,

It looks like you were able to add your "Other auDNA test". That is all that is necessary as we do not add raw DNA data to WikiTree. If you are interested, you can upload it to other sites like GEDMatch and/or YourDNAPortal, then update your DNA Testing information with those ID numbers.

Please let me know if you have any further questions!

Hello, I have been accessing some information from Wikitree while using FamilySearch.org and a free trial at MyHeritage.com and decided to join Wikitree as well. I have been creating my family tree on FamilySearch.org and have run into some problems with continuing to find information to take areas my tree back further in time. I was wondering how to create a GEDCOM. Thanks for any help or advice you can offer.

Hi Angela,

Mickey is off duty now, so I will answer you. With FamilySearch.org, their system does not compatible for GEDCOMs. If you use the Chrome Browser they have an extension you can get WikiTree X which is a quicker way to add people that doing them one by one

I hope this helps

Take care Karen ~ WikiTree Greeter
