COERTEN, Harmen, b. 1610; emigrated from Voorthuyzen in Gelderland in Feb. 1659, with wife and 5 children and settled in N. U. Jan. 15, 1664. He with others made an affidavit before the notary Pilgrom Clock relating to Capt. John Scott's raid on the Dutch towns on L. I., especially on N. U., as per p. 480 of Vol. II. of Doc. of Col. History of N. Y. Made his mark to documents. [1]

1) The 1689 marriage is impossible, and is clearly confused with this man's death date and location, which is the same, but makes sense for his death.
2) Daughter was Born 1642 in Voorhuysen, Guelderland, Holland, and married 1660 in New York. So this man appears to be the immigrant, sometime before 1660.
3) Coerten as a surname for all three generations is odd. It does not make sense as a patronymic for any of them. Although perhaps it may have started as a patronymic for the grandfather, and may have been Coertense, or Coertse. It needs some sourcing to figure out the origin of the Coerten name in this line.
