Marianne was born in Calcutta, in 1812. Her first name appears in various phonetically similar forms. Her parents were Hector COCHRANE & Harriet (surname unknown).

At some point between 1851 and 1861, Marianne appears to have separated from Eli and moved away, taking her surviving son, Hector, with her. She had had at least three sons but only the eldest, Eli Hector (b 1852), survived.
She passed away in late 1880.
