Herbert Cochrane was born 5 August 1890 in Adelaide, South Australia. He was the son of Donald Cochrane and Agnes Downie. [1]
He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 1 September 1914, aged 24, his next of kin was his mother Mrs Agnes Cochrane of 125 Gilbert street, Adelaide. He embarked from Adelaide on HMAT Ascanius A11 on 20 October 1914 with the 10th Infantry Battalion. Herbert was killed in action in Gallipoli on 2 May 1915. With no known grave, he is commemorated at the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey. [2] [3] [4]
