Alice Maud (Minnie) was born 2 May 1879 in Worthing, Sussex to Abraham James and Mary Ann Cobby.[1] In several Census records her birth is incorrectly listed. However, the birth certificate for her shows the above information.[2]
In 1881 she was living with her mother at 5 Field row, Broadwater, Sussex and her father was a fisherman at sea.[3]
In 1891 she was at the same residence with both parents and her father is a Fish Hawker and mother a Charwoman.[4]
She married Martin Frederick Dix 24 Sep 1906 in East Preston, Sussex.[5]
They had seven children., one of whom died in infancy.
In 1911 she resided with her husband and family at 3 Kings Row Worthing, Sussex.[6]
By 1924 they moved to Camberwell in London.
In the 1939 Census she is living with husband Martin, her daughter, Rose V and Martin's sister Minnie Andrews at 70 Bethwin Road, Southwark[7]
She died there 24 Sep 1953.[8]She was interred in Streatham Park Cemetery, Grave no. 52629 Sq28a.[9] although this perpetuates the incorrect date of birth.
