Birth

Thomas was born in Virginia. Some family trees and purported documentation exist that say that his father is Thomas Cobb but this descendancy has not been verified.

Thomas Cobb is listed on the Tax Rolls of Grainger County, Tennessee in 1810."^[1][2] Thomas married Nancy (Unknown)^{[citation needed]} and together they had six children.

M. Cobb writes that it is likely that Thomas is the father of the six children listed below in the "Children" section. The family eventually moved to Western Kentucky.^[1][2]

ii. Franky Cobb, born 1790-1800. Married Thomas R. Mullins. Died before 1850.

iii. Patsy Cobb, born 1794-1800. Married Isham Williams. Died before 1830.

iv. Howell Cobb, born 1793 in Virginia. Married Leah Williams. Died after 1850.

v. Jesse Cobb, born 1795-1800 either VA or GA. Wife Nancy (Reese) Mullins. Died 1864.

vi. Ebenezer Cobb, born 1806 in Georgia. Married twice. Died 1883.

Death and Burial

No records have been located to indicate the time and place of Thomas' death. He is last seen on the 1810 record. It is possible that he returned to Georgia or Virginia.

DNA evidence of ancestry

DNA analysis has shown that the presumed children of Thomas were descendants of the Ambrose Cobb who arrived in Virginia in 1635.^[1]

Baty-260 16:56, 6 March 2019 (UTC) : Update to this line - Author Virginia Greene has presented evidence in her book that Thomas' line to Ambrose the Immigrant is as follows:

Thomas' daughter Frances and son Jesse "descend from the immigrant Ambrose Cobb/s to his son Robert, to his son Ambrose, to his son Thomas and 3 more generations of Thomas Cobbs."^[3] I have ordered a copy of the book and will update this tree once it has arrived.

Unlikely Ancestry

Previously, this profile was linked to parents Thomas Addison Cobb and Mary Susannah (Moon) Cobb. While Thomas is related to Thomas Addison, it is highly unlikely that he is his son. Thomas Addison's son, Thomas Jr., was from Buckingham and has been identified in another profile.^[4]
