Like his ancestors, Richard was occupied as a clothier in Gloucestershire.
In 1624 he was named as overseer in the will of John Moore. In 1626 he witnessed the will of Henry Rider. In 1628, he was mentioned as Richard Clutterbuck of Eastington, clothier in the will of Thomas Walkley, clothier, who also made him an overseer.
As a clothier, Richard also acted as a local employer and employed weavers to work the cloth in the mill. In 1639, he was mentioned as Master Richard Clutterbuck in the will of John Vaughan, who was presumably his servant.
Should not be confused with Richard Clutterbuck of Nastend (1554-1623) who m. 1. Margery Fowler, 2. Dorothy, 3. Unknown. Richard son of William Clutterbuck of Millend married Ann Fowler.
