Biography

He was born in Nov 1587, Eastington, Gloucestershire the son of William Clutterbuck of Millend and his wife Ursula daughter of Richard Browning. He was bap. 26 Nov 1587 in Eastington, Gloucestershire.

In 1609 he was mentioned in his fathers will, at which point he had reached adulthood. [1]

Like his ancestors, Richard was occupied as a clothier in Gloucestershire.

In 1624 he was named as overseer in the will of John Moore. In 1626 he witnessed the will of Henry Rider. In 1628, he was mentioned as Richard Clutterbuck of Eastington, clothier in the will of Thomas Walkley, clothier, who also made him an overseer.

As a clothier, Richard also acted as a local employer and employed weavers to work the cloth in the mill. In 1639, he was mentioned as Master Richard Clutterbuck in the will of John Vaughan, who was presumably his servant.

Thanks for posting. It’s an interesting secondary source but is confused over the first name of the Clutterbuck who owned Mill End between 1591-1609 (is in fact William), and also gets the name of Ursula’s father wrong - a good example of why it’s often best to examine primary sources.
