Rose was born in 1846. She was the youngest daughter of Richard Cleveland and Anne Neal. She served as First Lady of the White House when her brother, Grover Cleveland started his first term as a bachelor. She was very bored with being First Lady but did it as a favor for her brother after taking care of her mother at the family home called " The Weeds " in the countryside of New York at Holland Patent.
When her brother married Frances Folsom, Rose rekindled her career in education. She became a Principal of the Collegiate Institute of Lafayette, Indiana. She was also a writer and and the editor of the Chicago-based magazine Literary Life"[1]
She eventually settled in Italy with her companion, Evangeline Simpson. Rose died during the flu epidemic in 1918.

Rose and her brother President Cleveland are both my 6th cousins through our common Puritan Great Grandfather Deacon Samuel Chapin of Springfield MA.
Her branches of her family also moved west from Massachusetts to the NY State frontier after the Revolutionary War. They settled in Counties near my Harvey and Whittlesey great grandparents. Rose helped her brother when he needed a WH hostess, so I will help Rose by watching over her page.
