Biography

Emily Clement, sometimes spelled Clements, was born in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, in 1805, the daughter of John Clements and Elona Hill.^[1] (A duplicate record gives the year as 1808.^[2]) (Note that the 1850 and 1860 censuses say she was born in Vermont.)

She married Oliver Cromwell Wiswell, the son of David and Mary (Coolidge) Wiswell, in 1831.^[3] They resided in Holliston, where the first 5 of their six children were born:

• John Henry, 1832-1865; marr. Helen Durant
• Charles Milton, 1834-1867
• William Clement, 1835-1912; marr. (1) Phebe Ann Thomas, (2) Emeline (Marston) Seagrave
• Emma Jane, 1838-1904; marr. Sereno Newton
• Charlotte Augusta, 1840-1863; marr. Amos P. Parker
• Sarah Ellen, 1847-1861

By 1847, the family was living in Oxford, Massachusetts, where Oliver was a farmer.^[4]

Her husband died in 1867. He was buried at the North Cemetery in Oxford, along with several of his children. At the time of the 1870 census, she lived in Millville, Massachusetts, with her daughter Emma Newton and her family.^[5] In 1880, she resided in Worcester, Massachusetts, where she is listed as a servant, at the home of her granddaughter Emma Weston and her family.^[6]

Emily died in 1894 when she was 88 years old. Her final resting place is not known at this time.
