Bertha (Clay) Synnestvedt has English ancestors.

Bertha Clay was born on October 5, 1886 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, daughter of Samuel A Clay (~1832–1902) and Mary Hicks (~1857–1941).[1][2]

In 1891, Bertha (age 4) was living with her father S A Clay (age 57, merchant), and siblings: Frank (12), Ernest (10), Ada (8), and Ethel (2), in Victoria City Johnson Street Ward, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. [3]

In 1901, Bertha (age 14), was living with her father Samuel Clay (age 67, gen. Merchant), mother Mary (37), and siblings: Frank (22, clerk), Ernest (20, helper), Ada (18), and Ethel (12), in Nanaimo South, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. [4] Bertha's father Samuel died in November 1902 in Ladysmith, B.C. aged 69-70.

In 1911, Bertha Clay, was a single sister-in-law, in the household of Percy G Mason in Vancouver Sub-Districts 19-50, British Columbia, Canada. He was the husband of her sister Ada.[5]

Bertha (age 26, Catholic), daughter of Samuel Clay & Mary Hicks, married Sigfred Synnestvedt (age 30, broker, Presbyterian) on 6 January 1913 in St. Andrew's Manse in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada. He was the son of Otto Synnestvedt and Julia Borschennis. They both were never married and were residing in Vancouver B.C. The wedding was officiated by J. S. Henderson by license.[6]

In 1920, Bertha M Synnestvedt (33), was a wife, in the household of Sigfried Synnestvedt (37) in Orillia, King, Washington, United States. [7]

In 1930, Bertha Synnestvedt (43), was a wife, in the household of Sigfred Synnestvedt (47) in Seattle, King, Washington, United States. [8] Their marriage broke down and they were divorced.

In the 1940 census Bertha (age 53) was living alone in Seattle Election Precinct, King, Washington, United States.[9]

Bertha's husband Sigfred was lodging in the 1950 census and was listed as divorced. He died in 1965 (age 82-83) and was buried in Wilhelm's Portland Memorial Mausoleum in Portland, Multnomah, Oregon, United States.

Bertha died on August 2, 1969 in West Vancouver, British Columbia, aged 82.[10] [11] Bertha was mentioned on a memorial in Capilano View Cemetery, West Vancouver, Greater Vancouver Regional District, British Columbia, Canada with a death date of 2 August 1969.[12]
