Biography

* Possible conflated profile. Children's records indicate mother's maiden name to be Hall not Clarke. Added sources to show correct mother, with baptism, parentage, and marriage records. See Research Notes

In the censuses she consistently states her birthplace as Runburgh, 2 miles from Chediston. Runburgh (St. Michael) is a parish, in the union and hundred of Blything, E. division of Suffolk, 4 miles (N. W. by N.) from Halesworth.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

Research Notes

  • I am finding evidence that Sarah's maiden name may have been Hall instead of Clarke. The birth registrations of her children indicate their mother's maiden name was Hall.
  • Discovered a Sarah Hall who married William Smith in 1839 in Blything.[17]
  • Sarah Hall was baptized in 1817 in Rumburgh, Suffolk, daughter of Benjamin Hall and Sarah Unknown.[18]
  • There is an older child, Mary Ann, born in 1836. Unsure if she was a child of William's or Sarah's before marriage or if she was a child of an earlier marriage. No baptism record has been found, and since she was born before the birth registration, we can't check the GRO
  • Baptism record attached to this profile when uploaded. It is for Sarah Clarke, daughter of John and Elizabeth Clarke.[19]
