Biography

Rosel Clark was a son of Nathaniel and Thankful Clark, born 19 May 1764 in Canterbury, Connecticut.[1]

As a young man he removed to Middletown, Rutland County, Vermont, as did several of his brothers.

Roswell Clark was married to Hannah (last name not recorded) in Middletown on 5 March 1789.[2]

The 1790 U.S. Census recorded Roswell Clark in Middletown, Vermont, head of a household that consisted of one male over 16 and two females.[3] The 1800 U.S. Census recorded Rozwell Clark in Middletown, head of a household consisting of one male and one female 26 to 44, one female 16 to 25, and one male and two females under 10.[4] The 1810 U.S. Census recorded Roswell Clark in Middletown, head of a household consisting of one male 45 and over (himself), one female 26 to 44 (his wife), one male and one female 10 to 15, and one male and one female under 10.[5]

In about 1818 Roswell Clark removed to Castleton, Vermont.[6] The 1820 U.S. Census recorded Roswell Clark in Castleton, head of a household consisting of one male and one female 45 and over (Roswell and his wife) and two males and one female 16 to 25.[7]

Roswell Clark died in Castleton at age 61 on 13 August 1825. Burial was in Congregational Cemetery in Castleton.[8][9][10] His wife Hannah Clark survived him; she died in Castleton on 6 March 1855.[11]

Children

Children of Roswell Clark identified in Merritt Clark's manuscript genealogy are Merlin, died Middlebury, Vermont; Ezra, died Springfield, Massachusetts; and Orra.[12]

  1. Orra Clark, daughter of Roswell Clark, was born in Middletown, Vermont, on 22 October 1793.[13] Orra died in Middletown on 15 July 1796, age 2 years, 8 months, and 23 days.[14]
  2. Orra Clark, daughter of Roswell Clark, was born in Middletown, Vermont, on 8 March 1797.[15] Orra Clark, daughter of Roswell Clark and Hannah, born in Middletown, Vermont, died in Castleton, Vermont, on 29 September 1869 at the age of 73. [16]
  3. Merlin Clark, son of Roswell Clark, was born in Middletown, Vermont, on 31 July 1799.[17]
