Biography

Mary E. Clabaugh was born about 1771 in Maryland,^[1] when the family was living in Frederick County. There are no official documents that say she was a Clabaugh, however there is strong circumstantial evidence the she was the daughter of John Clabaugh and Margaret Ferguson, and grandaughter of Samuel Ferguson of FrederickCounty.

She married Cumberland Ferguson, son of Robert Ferguson of Frederick County.^[2]

About 1800, they moved to Sevier County, Tennessee, as did [her parents] John and Margaret (Ferguson) Clabaugh. They then moved on to Knox County, Tennessee, where their yougest child and only son John Clabaugh Ferguson was born in 1815; then south to Warren County, Tennesse, as did [her brother] Charles Clabaugh; then to Madison County, Illinois, in 1841; and, in 1843 to Osage County, Missouri.^[2]

She died in Osage County, MO, in 1859; her husband in 1850.^[2]
