John Barker Church was Commissary General of the French Army in America, and financially aided the new American government. Returning to England after the American Revolution war, he was elected a Member of Parliament. According to tradition, he owned the Wogdon pistols used in the 1804 Burr-Hamilton duel. [1]

Served in Continental Army under Lafayette 1777; Member, Boston, MD Committee of Safety 1778-1779; Commissary to the French Army under Rochambeau 1780-1781. [2]

John Church, bilingual son-in-law of Philip Schuyler, they both worked with Jeremiah Wadsworth of the American Commissary. [3]

John married Angelica Schuyler, the daughter of General Philip Schuyler. They are the parents of children, including:

  1. Philip Schuyler Church married to Anna Stewart daughter of General Walter Stewart and Deborah (McClenachan) Stewart (daughter of Congressman Blair McClenachan)
  2. Elizabeth Matilda Church, born December 7, 1783, in Paris, France, died August 13, 1867, in Oswego County, New York, married Rudolph Bunner (1779 - 1837) US Congressman from New York
  3. Catherine who married Bertram Peter Cruger as per the DAR.
