Biography

Elizabeth Cherry was born about 1851 in Girvan, South Ayrshire, Scotland. She was one of the eldest of fifteen children of Jonas Cherry and Mary Thornton.

Elizabeth (Cherry) Hanger migrated from Scotland to Queensland.

The family migrated to Queensland (Australia) in the early 1860s, settling in Rockhampton.

Elizabeth married Richard Hanger on 14th November 1872 in Rockhampton. ^[1] The couple had five children, however, a son and a daughter passed away in infancy.

Their other daughter, Mary Elizabeth, married in February 1896, however, died eleven months later. Elizabeth passed away on 12th June 1898 in Rockhampton ^[2] and is buried in South Rockhampton Cemetery. ^[3] She was survived by Richard and their two surviving sons.
