Biography

Richard was born in 1836 in Sheffield, Yorkshire.

At some point in his first 30 years he travelled down to Hampshire and settled there. He may have come from a steelworking family in Sheffield and brought his tools to the south-east where he found work first as a toolmaker and later as a cutler.

Richard (age 31), child of Henry Cheetham, married Louisa Walke (age 24) on 4 August 1867 at St Bartholomew's Church, Southsea, Hampshire, England.[1]

Richard's son Henry Cheetham was baptised on 18 April 1869 in St Marys Southampton, Hampshire, England.[2]<

In the 1871 census Richard (age 35), Saw & Edge Toolmaker, was the married head of household in Southampton St Mary, Hampshire, England.[3]

Richard's child Frederick William Cheetham was baptised on 31 October 1876 in Southampton Holy Trinity, Hampshire, England.[4]

Richard's death (age 78) was registered in the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter of 1914 in the Southampton district.[12]
