Biography

Joseph Chason, Jr., was born about 1773 in Fayetteville, Cumberland, North Carolina. When he was about two years old, he became a brother to James. In 1779 he had a sister born and in 1780 he had a brother, John, who was born. In 1790, when he was about 17 years old, he lived in Cumberland, North Carolina with his parents Joseph and Mrs. Chason. {His mother's name is believed to be Elizabeth Chason, according to wikitrees.com}. He had an older brother named Benjamin. In the household of his father, Joseph, lived 2 free white males above 16, which included himself. Also, there were 2 free white males under 16, and 2 free white females, which included his mother. In 1800, he still lived in Cumberland County. When he was about 37 years old, in 1810, he was living in Division 10, Captain Rays's District, Cumberland County, NC. This can be found on the census of that year, on line 31 and line 79. One was his father Joseph and the other was himself. In about 1800-1804 he married Margaret Hall. In 1820 Joseph was living in Captain Evans District, Cumberland County, NC. In 1830 he was living in Cedar Creek, Cumberland, NC. In about 1831 (1830-1840) his father died in Bainbridge, Decatur County, Georgia. It is a possibility that Joseph Sr. was living with his son John. In 1840, Joseph Jr. was still living in Cumberland County. Finally, in 1850, Joseph was 77 years old and now living in Decatur County, Georgia. In the census of 1850, in Decatur County, Georgia, microfilm M432-67, page 73B, dwelling and family number 680, line 1, Joseph Chason was listed as 77 years old, born in North Carolina, and a Farmer with property value of $ 1,000. He was living in the house of his son J. Chason. In about 1855 it is estimated that Joseph Chason passed away, around the age of 82. He is buried in Decatur County, Georgia.

1. John J. Chason. He married Margaret Lovett. Their children were Johnathan and Margaret. Johnathan married Nancy Lambert.

2. Richard Chason. He married Margaret Fergusan. Their son James married Lutisha Roberts "Leachy". James and Lutisha had at least three children; Mary Jane, Malcolm, and Love. Mary Jane married Alex Brisson. Mary Jane and Alex Brisson's children were Harry and Minnie. Minnie married Mr. Butler. Love Chason married Victoria King and their children were James Roy, Mary Ida, Della Maud, Bessie Adelia, Walter Love, Alice Gray, and Herbert Lily.

3. Josiah Chason. He married Mary Lambert.
