Biography

Elizabeth Chase was born on 31 May 1833 in Biddeford, Maine. [1] She was the daughter of Thomas Chase and Rachel (Bachelder) Chase. [2] [3]

She married Isaac Kenney on 17 October 1853 in Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. [3] They had seven children:

  4. Frank [5]
  5. Harry [6]
  6. Burton [6]
  7. Unknown child born and died before 1900 [7]

She appeared in the 1860 US Census in Green Garden, Will County, Illinois. [4] She was living with her husband and their children Clifford, Ann, and Frederick. Chase Kinney (22), a teacher, was also listed in the household. [4]

The family moved to Waverly, Bremer County, Iowa in 1868. [1]

She appeared in the 1870 US Census in Washington Township, Bremer County, Iowa. [5] She was living with her husband and their children Clifford, Anna, Frederick, and Frank. [5]

She appeared in the 1885 Iowa Census in Waverly, Bremer County, Iowa. [6] She was living with her husband and their children Frederick, Francis, Harry, and Burton. [6]

She appeared in the 1895 Iowa Census in Waverly, Bremer County, Iowa. [8] She was living with her husband. [8]

She appeared in the 1900 US Census in Waverly, Bremer County, Iowa. [7] She was living with her husband. [7]

She died on 24 September 1901 in Waverly, Bremer County, Iowa. [9]

She was buried at Harlington Cemetery in Waverly, Bremer County, Iowa. [10]

Her obituary [1] reads:

Elizabeth C. Kenney was born in Biddeford, Maine, May 31st, 1833. She died at the home of her son, Frank B. Kenney in Waverly, Iowa, on Sept. 24, 1901, after a brief illness. She was married to Isaac H. Kenney Oct. 17, 1853, at Lowell, Mass. They came to Waverly in 1868 and have since made their home in this city. Her husband died a few months ago. She leaves five sons and one daughter, all but one of whom were present at the funeral. The children present were Fred H. and Frank B. Kenney of Waverly, C. C. Kenney of Marshall, Minn., Dr. I. B. Kenney of Minneapolis and Mrs. Wm. Guyer of Mason City. The funeral takes place at St. Andrew's Episcopal church at 2 o'clock this afternoon, Rev. J. B. Van Fleet officiating.
