Biography

The daughter of James Chafin and Lucy (Roberts) Chafin Myrtle Chafin was born in Van Buren Township, Indiana^{[citation needed]} in 1896, residing there with her family.^[1][2]

Myrtle married Dennis Brummet, marrying in Brown County, Indiana on September 5, 1914^[3] and having two known children together:

1. Kenneth Earl Brummett (1915-2004)
2. Wiley Keith Brummett (1916-1998)

Widowed in 1916, Myrtle lived with her children in Bolivar Township, Indiana, farming and keeping house.^[4] Myrtle remarried in 1923, marrying Dean Alvin Smith (1875-1943), the son of George Smith and Nancy Jones, on August 22, 1923, in Tippecanoe County, Indiana.^{[citation needed]} They made their home in Center Township, Indiana, where her husband farmed grain.^[5] By 1940, they had moved to Medina Township, Indiana, in Warren County, residing in Green Hill, farming rented land.^[6]

Widowed a second time in 1943, Myrtle Smith passed away at the age of 61 and is buried at Armstrong Chapel Cemetery in Green Hill, Indiana.^[7]
