Samuel Taylor Chadwick was born Urmston, Lancashire, England in 1809. He attended medical school in London, Dublin, and Edinburgh and practiced in Bolton, Lancashire near Manchester. He practiced surgery, and in 1858 he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons.[1]
He was known for his crusading work in public health and worked to improve the living conditions of workers in the Manchester area. Samuel died in 1876.[4] After his death, a statue of him was erected in the Bolton town square.[5]
