Henry Francis Cayley was born in Sydney, New South Wales on 23 February 1910. He was educated at Geelong Grammar School. He started work as a journalist. He spent most of his life in New South Wales, mostly living in Lewisham or Wollstonecraft, a Sydney suburb, though Kelly's 1939 Directory lists him as resident in Oxfordshire, England. Successive New South Wales electoral rolls from 1943 to 1980 show him as a manager or director. He was a leading figure in the Australian bridge world. On 18 April 1940 he married Marea Concetta (or Concepta - electoral rolls have both spellings) Lorraine Borthwick in Sydney. He died on 18 October 1981.
