George Augustus Frederick Cavendish-Bentinck was born on July 9, 1821 in London, England. His parents were Frederick Cavendish-Bentinck CB (1781 - 1828) and Lady Mary (Lowther) Cavendish-Bentinck (1785 - 1862).

George married Prudence Penelope Leslie (1826 - 1896).

In 1873 he purchased Branksea Castle, which is located on Brownsea Island. He introduced Jersey cows and developed agriculture on the Island.

George died on April 9, 1891 in Brownsea Island, Dorset aged 69.
