Caroline Dorothea Elisabeth (Katt) Deutschendorf was a Black Sea German.
Caroline Dorothea Elisabeth Katt was born 26 Jul 1862 in Vorwerk Rothebude, Marienburg, Baarenhof, West Prussia to Erdmann Katt and Helene Caroline Butschke (Buschke).[1]
She is referred to as Elizabeth Catt in baptism records.[2]
She immigrated to the Ekaterinoslav area in South Russia.
She married Georg Deutschendorf on 5 Nov 1878 at Josefstal Parish in Chortitza, Ekaterinoslav, South Russia (Zaporizhia Oblast, Ukraine).[3]
Georg and Elizabeth had ten children together.[4] They immigrated to Ekaterinoslav and lived in several Mennonite villages before moving to the Kuban area.[5][6]
According to German-Russian research by Dr. Kloberdanz, the Deutchendorf family was located in Wohldenfürst/Wohldenfuerst (Velikoknyasheskoye) where the family resettled to this Mennonite colony in Kuban of the North Caucasus. [7]
Elizabeth died sometime between 1917-1920 based upon her daughter's records and family letters. According to family, Georg immigrated to Germany in 1917 (or possibly 1920 according to Anna's records) with children Willy, Heinrich, and Anna to escape the conflict in Russia. Sons William and Heinrich served on the German front. Anna wrote to her niece in 1942 indicating that her father Georg was alive but had been blind for the last ten years.[8]

August 1918

I am Waldemar, the youngest son of Elisabet Warkentin, née Löwen. My mother was the eldest daughter of Franz and Wilhelmine Löwen, née Wilhelmine Deutschendorf. My mother died on April 7, 2003 at the age of 92. About 30 years ago, she wrote the following by hand on a piece of paper in German:
Quote, including some spelling mistakes: My maiden name is Elisabet Löwen, now Warkentin. Born in 1910 to my grandparents of mother's kant *(1). The grandfather was Georg Deutschendorf. The grandmother's maiden name was Elisabet Kaat. In the last century they came to Russia where they were called refugees. They were driven back and forth a lot until 1917, when the grandmother died. In the same year 1917 the grandfather came to Germany with two sons Willy Deutschendorf and Genrig *(2) Deutschendorf and a daughter Anna Deutschendorf. Willy and Genrig Deutschendorf were my uncles and Anna Deutschendorf was my aunt. They lived here, their address was lost to me during the war. I received news from them from time to time until the war. I received the last letter from my aunt Anna in 1942 during the war, she wrote that my grandfather was still alive and that my grandfather had been blind for 15 years and that my uncles Willy Deutschendorf and Genrig Deutschendorf were both at the German front. After the war I never heard from them again.
(1) Mother's side
(2) Genrig = Henry. In Russian there is no H, replaced by G, therefore renamed Genrig
My mother also writes about my paternal grandparents that they were murdered in 1918 in Maslyanov, Omsk region. There is also a newspaper report about this: “Friedensstimme” Saturday, August 31, 1918
