Somerset County is a county in the state of Maine, in the United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 50,477. Its county seat was Norridgewock from 1809 to 1871 and Skowhegan since 1871.

Somerset County was formed in 1809 from a portion of Kennebec County.

Parts of Oxford County lying in Bingham's Kennebec Purchase were annexed in 1819 and 1823

Parts were set off to form Franklin County and Piscataquis County in 1838

The northern portions were annexed to Aroostook County in 1844
