The National Medal is an Australian award, introduced in 1975, and given for long service by operational members of specified eligible organisations such as ambulance, correctional, emergency, fire and police forces, and voluntary organisations such as lifesaving or search and rescue groups, who are operationally deployed. Australian Defence Force members were included from 1975 to 1982.
