Malmöhus County was a county of its own until it was merged with Kristianstad County to form the new Skåne County on January 1, 1997 .

Malmöhus County was located in Götaland and was geographically containing large parts of Skåne Province. The coat of arms for Malmöhus county were based on Skåne province with an addition of three crows for the county.

The county code for Malmöhus was the letter M (which is now also county code for Skåne county) and there were about 280 parishes in the county.
