See: English Place Name Categories The City of London (or The Square Mile as it is commonly known) is a city situated within Greater London and despite these confusingly close names the two Londons have separate city halls and elect separate mayors, who collect separate taxes to fund separate police who enforce separate laws. The City of London also has a representative in Parliament, known as The Remembrancer, whose job it is to protects the City's special rights, and some laws passed by Parliament don't apply to the City of London.
The City of London also has its own flag and its own arms as well as its own Mayor, who goes by the title of 'The Right Honourable the Lord Mayor of London'.
