There are three levels of ordination within the Catholic ministry: bishop, priest and deacon. There are two types of deacons: transitional deacons usually within their last year of seminary who intend to seek ordination as priests and permanent deacons who do not intend to seek ordination as a priest. Deacons may preach, perform baptisms, witness marriages and assist with the Eucharist or the Mass, though ordinary ministers of the Eucharist they can not consecrate the Eucharist. Priests may perform all functions except confirmation and ordination of bishops, priests and deacons. Priests with special permission may administer confirmation. Bishops may ordain deacons, priests and bishops. Bishops who lead a metropolitan archdiocese are called Archbishops. Wikipedia: Holy orders in the Catholic Church

The General Instruction to the Roman Missal lays out clearly the various tasks and ministries of the deacon within the Mass.

GIRM 94: After the priest, the deacon, in virtue of the sacred Ordination he has received, holds first place among those who minister in the Eucharistic celebration. For the sacred Order of the diaconate has been held in high honour in the Church even from the time of the Apostles. At Mass the deacon has his own part in proclaiming the Gospel, in preaching God’s word from time to time, in announcing the intentions of the Prayer of the Faithful, in ministering to the priest, in preparing the altar and serving the celebration of the Sacrifice, in distributing the Eucharist to the faithful, especially under the species of wine, and sometimes in giving directions regarding the people’s gestures and posture.

Profiles should be categorized according to the highest level of ordination a person attained. If this category for deacons become crowded, deacons may be subcategorized by geographic areas corresponding to the Episcopal Conferences within the Catholic Church which generally correspond roughly to countries. However, the words "Episcopal Conference" are not used. See the pattern of subcategories under Category: Catholic Bishops for the pattern to be used for subcategories.
