The 2/2nd Australian Casualty Clearing Station was initially based in the Middle East during the Second World War. The unit returned to Australia in 1942, via Batavia (Jakarta), Java, Netherlands East Indies (Indonesia). Whilst in that port they met the Singapore nurses who had evacuated from Singapore per the Wah Sui and brought them home.
