Biography

William was born in 1881. Parents Robert Sidney Castle (1849–1935) and Sarah Ann (Annie) Nicholls (1854–1890).

After the death of his mother in 1890 when he is 9 years old, he and sister Sarah Elizabeth "Lilley" Castle (1886-1971) are living with relatives. Sister Lilley eventually marries Robert Holsworth Coles (1890–1960) and after having several children in England, the couple emigrate to NSW, Australia.

Spouse: Matilda Palgrave born Deptford (at the time part of Kent).

In their marriage document (spinster) Matilda's father is recorded as William Palgrave, gasfitter. Additional witness is Mary Jane Palgrave. William's father Robert is a painter. William's occupation is sailor.

William is killed on 22 August 1916 (during World War One) when his submarine "E16" is sunk by a mine in Heligoland Bight.
