He was created Cardinal on 18 September 1227 and given the diocese of San Marco.[1] In 1238 he became Cardinal Bishop of Sabina.[2]
He was elected pope on 25 October 1241 and took the name Pope Celestine IV and was crowned on 28 October 1241[3]. He died on 10 November 1241 and was placed in a tomb at St Peter's Basilica.[1]
