Research Notes

Edited from Gedcom import:

Email from David Meridith to Nancy Dzierzawski

Caroline Elizabeth Casswell's father, Henry Casswell, a native of Gosberton, LIN, was the son of John Casswell and Ann Lumby.... from here on in things get a touch complicated.

John C was born at Quadring, LIN, the son of John Casswell and Ann Lumby - yep, you read correctly...it unfolds like this.....

Henry's mother Ann Jnr (b. Donington, LIN), was the daughter of Isaac Lumby (b.1760 at Stamford Baron, NTH) the son of John and Ann(Herring)... Now ,Henry's grandmother, Ann Lumby Snr (b. 1763 at Stamford Baron, NTH) .... was as you will have guessed was also the daughter of John and Ann (Herring) which makes Henry's parents first cousins.

Just to round things off, Isaac had Ann Jnr by his second wife, a certain Sarah Bowles... his first wife was none other than a Mary Casswell, who just happens to have been a first cousin of Henry's grandfather, John Casswell Snr....

Oh yes, nearly forgot... Henry's aunt, Alice Lumby (b. Donington) daughter of Isaac etc, married an Isaac Lumby from Holborn, London - though no doubt he was an escapee from Stamford.... just for good measure the witnesses were Casswells......
