Biography
Hugh was born in 1833 in Queens County, Ireland.[1]
He married Ann Lawler/Lawlor about 1859 [TBC]
They had children (all born in New Zealand):
- William Cassin (1860-1916)
- Mark Cassin (1862-1926)
- Mary Alicia Cassin (1864-)
- Catherine Cassin (1866-1881)
- Nora Cassin (1867-)
- Philomena Mary Cassin (1869-1950)
Hugh and Ann emigrated to New Zealand on the William Miles, arriving at Lyttelton on 21 August 1860.[2] They settled in Christchurch.
Hugh passed away in March 1885[3] and is buried in Barbadoes Street Cemetery, Christchurch.[4]
Research Notes
- Brothers Michael, Martin and John also emigrated to New Zealand; settling in Addington, Christchurch.
- Michael was executor of Hugh's will.
- Queens County, Ireland is now known as County Laois.
