Notes

Note H00605A physician and in 1832 partner of Dr. Otis P. Mills as a merchant and tavern-keeper at Brindletown.
From Burke County, NC Surviving Will and Probate Abstracts 1777-1910:
96. John W. Carson, presented for probate Oct. 1842 by Joseph McD. Carson, qualifying executor.
Dr. John W. Carson died unexpectedly at Knoxville on June 12, 1836. At that time, the capital invested in his partnership with Mills in the store was 98.97. His other valuable possessions included five slaves (a husband, wife and three children), livestock (mules and colts), silver spoons, a gold watch, and a case of pocket pistols. His brothers Samuel, Joseph, William and Charles received the bulk of his estate.
Never married. He served in Burke Militia 3rd Regiment in 1822, and was a Brindletown merchant and tavern keeper in 1832. A cattle buyer refused to pay him for Carson cattle in Charleston, not recognizing Dr. Carson since he had dyed his hair, white since birth. Dr. Carson accompanied his half-brother Samuel Price Carson and his family to the Mississippi River as they moved to Samuel Price Carson's 3000 acres along the Texas-Arkansas Border in Texas, September, 1835. Dr. John W. Carson's estate became his brother's property when he died June 12, 1836, in Knoxville, Tennessee, when a horse threw him.
