Biography

Elizabeth (Carr) Johnson is related to US President Lyndon B. Johnson. Here is the trail.

Great Great Great Grandmother of Lyndon Baines Johnson 37th President of the United States.

Little is known about Elizabeth except that she was the mother of John Johnson and had died before 1816. The parents of Elizabeth are unproven, the only indication of parents is in the research notes below. Also, Brogan, Hugh and Charles Mosley, American Presidential Families, New York: Macmillan Publishing Company (1993), pages 692, 694-695, supports the fact that her father was Robert Carr and her mother was Sarah.

Carr Shackleford Johnson connection Posted by: Ann Whitney (ID *****3156) Date: November 30, 2006 at 20:51:52 of 590

I recently received a "loose paper" chancery case over inheritance from the court house in Halifax County VA dated 15 Dec, 1754 from my cousin.

It is between William Johnson, his wife Elizabeth Carr Johnson, their children, Richard Johnson, Cecelia Johnson Bradly (her husband is William Bradly), Eliabeth Johnson Owen ( her husband is Elisha Owen) and John Johnson plaintifs and John, Thomas and William Carr, defendants

It states that Roger Shackleford married Jane Carr. This marriage took place after 1753, the aproximate year Jane's husband John Carr died, and before 1801, the year this document was written.

John Carr died intestate, according to the affidavit, in 1753 or thereabout. I also have a copy of John's inventory of estate dated 15 Dec 1754 in Hanover County with the widow's mark, Jane Carr. This inventory was among the loose papers of Halifax County along with the chancery case presumably because John Carr's sons lived in Halifax County at that time. (I have lots of proof ie wills, deeds, marriages, census etc.)

It mentions all of John's sons and daughters: John Carr(also mentions son John's wife,Mary, decd.), William Carr, Thomas Carr, Elizabeth Carr Johnson, wife of William Johnson, Sarah Carr McGrigor, decd., wife of John McGrigor, and Mary Carr Hood, decd., wife of Isreal Hood.

The names of the slaves in the inventory are: a negro woman, Phillis; a negro girl, Daphney; a negro hand, Jonny;and a negro girl, Hannah.

Carr-9868 and Carr-491 appear to represent the same person because: all the data is estimates, no primary sources. Brogan, Hugh and Charles Mosley, American Presidential Families, New York: Macmillan Publishing Company (1993), 692, 694-695. indicates that her parents were Robert and Sarah, no other information on dates or places.

Yes, I believe that there are several Robert Carr(s) that have been conflated on one profile.

I got Mary Williams married to Robert Carr from a SAR document (https://www.wikitree.com/photo/png/Carr-4924). Do you think that may be a different Robert Carr? (i.e., not the father of Elizabeth Carr?)

Per Brogan, Hugh and Charles Mosley, American Presidential Families, New York: Macmillan Publishing Company (1993), 692, 694-695., the mother of Elizabeth Carr was Sarah Unknown. And her father had several marriages, but never married a Mary Williams.

Carr-9868 and Carr-491 are not ready to be merged because: Mother needs to be confirmed. Before merging.

Carr-9868 and Carr-491 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, same birth year and location, same death year and location. Same father, same husband. These profiles represent the same person.

What is the source for the mother being Sarah Lawrence?
