Walter Frederick Carncross was born in Sandhurst in 1855. He was the son of Joseph Carncross and Edith Cutten. [1]

The death occurred at his home at Eltham yesterday morning of Sir Walter Carncross, aged 85, *a former Speaker of the Legislative Council. He is survived by Lady Carncross, one daughter, Miss S. Carncross, and one son, Mr C. Carncross, all of Eltham.
Sir Walter was born at Bendigo, Victoria, in 1855. He came to New Zealand as a boy.
From 1890 until 1902 he was member for Taieri in the House of Representatives. Cn his retirement from the House, Sir Walter was appointed to the Legislative Council, of which he was a member until the time of his death.[2]
