He was the son of John Carleton abt 1738 - abt 1807. Hardy was the brother of Revolutionary Soldier David Carlton.
The Carlton Family Cemetery is located in Moultrie, Colquitt County, Georgia, on the property that was homestead by Hardy Carlton SR and his wife Elizabeth Sloan Carlton. When they moved in the early 1800's from North Carolina, their home was located in Thomas County. This area became Colquitt County in 1856.
The Information pertaining to burials on the family homestead was recorded in the Family Bible of Hardy Carlton SR born 1762. This Bible was given to him by his brother Reverend Peter Carlton (b. 1761), both were son's of John Carleton/Carlton (b. 1732) a Revolutionary Soldier, who enlisted from Craven County, North Carolina, and died near the end of the war.
