Biography
Layton was born on 7 Mar 1862 in Coosa County, Alabama. He was the son of Aaron and Mary Carlton. Layton passed away in Sunny Slope, Arkansas on 13 Mar 1939 and was buried in the Everett Cemetery, Cleburne County, Arkansas.[1][2]
1880 Census: Calvin Carlton is living with his parents, Aaron (45) and Mary (42) Carlton, in the Healing Springs Township of Independence County, Arkansas. The record notes that Clavin was 18 and born in Alabama. Also residing in the home were Calvin's siblings Mary F. (15), William (12), Andrew (10), Leroy (8), Jane (6), James S. (4), and Thomas J. (2).[3]
13 Mar 1881: Laton C. Carlton and Miss Mary Elizabeth Stubbs (19) were married in Independence County, Arkansas. The record shows that Laton was 19 and a resident of Independence County.[4][5]
1900 Census: Loton Carlton and his wife Elizabeth (37) are living in the California Township of Ceburne County, Arkansas. The record reflects that Loton was 38, born in Alabama during March of 1862, and that he had been married to Elizabeth for 19 years. The couple have 6 children in their home: John (18), James (15), Mary (13), Sarah (10), Johnathan (9), and henry (5).[6]
