CARLTON JR., 86, a retired Air Force pilot, died March 20, 1997, in Colorado Springs.A memorial sevice will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mountain View Mortuary Chapel, 2350 Montebello Square Drive, with Chaplain Ron Coffin officiating. Inurnment will be in Auburn, Calif. Col. Carlton was born Feb. 26, 1911, in Winslow, Territory of Arizona, to Merrill H. and Ida Adell Mooney Carlton, who are deceased. He was married Aug. 30, 1935, in San Diego to Margaret (Marcus) Carlton, who lives in Colorado Springs. He is also survived by a son, Lowell Milton of Colfax, Calif.; a daughter, Lynn Adell Hoekstra of Colorado Springs; three brothers, Earl T. of San Diego, Carroll of Grass Valley, Calif., and Charles of Los Angeles; a sister, Anna Hunt of Show Low, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Merrill H. III. Col. Carlton attended San Jose State College. He had served in the Air Force for 26 years where he received the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with three oak-leaf clusters. He was a member of the Foothill Christian Fellowship, the Masonic Lodge and the Mosquito Association. He was grateful to God that he lived to see all his children and grandchildren come to see Jesus Christ as Savior. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Comforter, 2790 N. Academy Blvd., 100, Colorado Springs 80917.

He was a Colonel in the Air Force and received the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, and Air Medal with 3 oak-leaf clusters.
