I have been chasing up family history for some decades, with periodic bursts of more focused effort. Now trying to get things in order, referenced, and back-stories developed.

And with increasing material available on the internet I have been able to develop coherent links back 200 years on mother's side (Hanna / McAlister), and 350 on father's side (Carleton / Conway), and to draw together reflections of historical context. Fascinating, and quite an education.

Biography

Crick was born on the Wirral (on the other side of the River Mersey directly opposite Liverpool) of Irish parents, with a heritage going back several hundred years to emigrants to Ireland on both sides of the family from the England/Scotland border regions.

At the age of five the family moved to south London where he did most of his schooling. Early professional experience was gained in ecological research in cave systems in the Highlands of Guyana, fisheries management in the southern Sahel, and getting fish to market along difficult supply chains from deserts and islands around the globe. He has since spent over 45 years as an international development economist specialising in the economic, social, commercial and environmental aspects of natural resource use, with a particular marine / fishery focus. This has led him to work in 90 countries around the world.

And by happenstance he now lives in the Scottish Borders.
